A doctor was found dead under “mysterious circumstances” in a hotel room in West Bengal’s Jhargram on Thursday. The hotel staff alerted police after receiving no response from the doctor’s room despite repeated calls. When the police arrived, they entered the room and found the body of Dr Dipra Bhattacharya.
According to the sources, the police also found a suicide note near the body which indicates that the doctor died by suicide due to “personal issues with his wife”.
“We had to break open two separate doors to recover his body from inside the room. The door was locked from inside. His mobile phone had been seized, which had no lock at that time. One suicide note has also been recovered from near the dead body. This recovered suicide note indicates his mental depression due to some very personal issues with his wife. As per the initial investigation, it seems to be a suicide,” police sources told India Today.
Dr Dipra was a senior resident at Jhargram Medical College and Hospital. He had been living on the fifth floor of the hotel. Suspicion arose when the hotel staff were unable to contact him throughout the morning, prompting them to call the police.
Upon entering the room, police found Dr Bhattacharya lying on the bed. A syringe and a suicide note were discovered nearby, the police sources told India Today TV. His body was taken to the hospital for a post-mortem examination, and police have opened a case of unnatural death.
Dr Anurup Pakhira, superintendent of Jhargram Medical College and Hospital, said, “I came to know from his friends that he was suffering from mental depression. The actual cause of death will be known only after the postmortem. Police are investigating the matter.”
The preliminary report of the doctor’s postmortem suggested that his death happened due to injecting chemicals which led to multiple organ failure. A police source told India Today, “There was no foul play found during the postmortem. The preliminary report of the postmortem suggests that his death was due to injecting some chemicals into the body which led to multiple organ failure.”
